OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Phanerozoic Basinshideshow

The OZ (Australian) SEEBASEâ„¢ Compilation represents many years of work by FrOG Tech in Australia in the petroleum, mineral and coal sectors.

The result is a model of the geological evolution of the Phanerozoic (and Neoproterozoic) Australian Basins, which is summarised in this GIS and report, and has now been released into the Public Domain.

The article "The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Project: A New View of Australia's Phanerozoic Basins", published in PESA News in 2005, gives some more background to the study.

The study includes a SEEBASEâ„¢ (depth-to-basement) surface for all major Phanerozoic and several Neoproterozoic basins, all datasets that were used to interpret and calibrate this surface, derivative layers such as sediment and basement thickness, and interpreted faults, attributed with e.g. movement direction and age.

The SEEBASEâ„¢ Product includes a GIS and a report. The GIS was created in ArcMap version 9.0, and can be viewed with the free ArcReader by non-ArcGIS users. The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Phanerozoic Basins GIS and report are available for download free of charge here (total package is a 524 MB zip file). Alternatively, the GIS and report can be ordered on a DVD for AU$77 (US$90 international)*, or a DVD and a hardcopy of the report can be ordered for AU$346.50 (US$370 international)*, also through this link.

OZ SEEBASE Version 2, Includes updated OZ SEEBASE and SEEBASE Derivative files (sediment thickness and basement thickness - originally called "Crustal thickness" in Version 1). Geophysical and DEM images have been changed from ecws to jpgs to avoid ArcGIS ecw compatibility issues.

Updated regions include:

Darling Basin (NSW), Sydney Basin (NSW), Renmark Trough (SA), Stuart Shelf (SA), and the Neoproterozoic Redcliff Pound Group (WA/NT).

OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Proterozoic Basins hideshow

The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Proterozoic Basins Study has expanded the 'original' OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Study (above) to include the major, relatively undeformed and unmetamorphosed Neoarchaean and Proterozoic Australian Basins. The study includes a SEEBASEâ„¢ (depth-to-basement) surface for all major Neoarchaean to Recent basins, all datasets that were used to interpret and calibrate this surface, derivative layers such as sediment and basement thickness, and interpreted faults, attributed with e.g. movement direction and age.

The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Proterozoic Basins Study was carried by FrOG Tech for Geoscience Australia and the surveys of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia and Queensland. It was completed in June 2006 and is now available in the Public Domain.

The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Proterozoic Basins Product includes a GIS and a report. The GIS was created in ArcMap version 9.0, and can be viewed with the free ArcReader by non-ArcGIS users. The GIS is also available in MapInfo version 8.5.

The OZ SEEBASEâ„¢ Proterozoic Basins GIS and report are available for download free of charge through this link (total package is a 666 MB zip file). Alternatively, the GIS and report can be ordered on a DVD for AU$77 (US$90 international)*, or a DVD and a hardcopy of the report can be ordered for AU$346.50 (US$370 international)*, also through this link.
